Abstract

Clean Energy to Communities (C2C) is an innovative, technical program that helps electric utilities, local governments, and community-based organizations meet their progressive clean energy goals. The Expert Match program is designed to provide short-term, no-cost technical assistance for communities seeking to answer a near-term.

This document provides an Expert Match Technical Assistance (TA) Overview for the Ketchum fire station. Ketchum is a town in Idaho with a population of approximately 3,500. The Ketchum fire station requires a large amount of energy to maintain a safe, snow-free, space in their climate. They are hoping to offset this demand with renewable solar energy and need assistance in the design of this solar system to put out for public bid.

The Overview of TA includes:

Work Area 1: Solar Techno-Economic Analysis
Objective: Model the techno-economic potential of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at the Ketchum fire station.
Scope: The technical assistance (TA) analyzes the cost-effectiveness of financially feasible PV system designs considering a rooftop solar system with various tilt angles.

Work Area 2: PV System Design Considerations for Heavy Snowfall Conditions
Objective: Review PV system design considerations under heavy snowfall climate conditions.
Scope: The TA provides research on local climate conditions on snowfalls in the region, standards required to support the associated snow loads, and PV design considerations for solar modules, frames, tilt angles, mounts, and tracking systems under heavy snowfall climate conditions.
