Abstract
This report documents an energy system planning study for the communities of Chilmark and Aquinnah on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, conducted by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project. These communities sought technical assistance from the Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project to develop strategies for enhancing the resilience of community essential buildings during power outages through the integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery storage in a microgrid system. Detailed data collection and building energy modeling were conducted to estimate hourly electricity load profiles, which were then used in the Distributed Energy Resources Customer Adoption Model (DER-CAM) microgrid modeling tool to create optimized microgrid designs.
