Ambassador Max Sieben Baucus was accompanied by his wife, Melodee Hanes and Evan Felsing, Deputy Section Chief for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, on a visit to Berkeley Lab last week. During their meeting with Director Mike Witherell, Ashok Gadgil (Energy Technologies Area Deputy for Science and Technology), and Lynn Price and Nan Zhou (ETA's China Energy Group), they discussed current U.S.-China topics such as the recent U.S.-China Joint Announcement on Climate Change that was instrumental in creating momentum for the Paris Agreement, the U.S-China Clean Energy Research Center for Buildings Energy Efficiency (CERC-BEE, Nan Zhou is the U.S. Director), the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center for Water and Energy Technologies (CERC-WET, Ashok Gadgil is the U.S. Director), and the Berkeley-Tsinghua Joint Research Center on Energy and Climate Change (Lynn Price is the Berkeley Lab representative). Following the discussion, Ambassador Baucus's delegation toured the China Energy Group offices, meeting the Group's 20 visiting researchers from China, and also toured the FLEXLAB® test-bed facility.
