Dr. Nan Zhou gave a speech at the Foundation Laying Ceremony for LBNL-Shenzhen IBR Joint Research Center

On October 12, Nan Zhou, Deputy Group Leader of the China Energy Group at LBNL participated in the foundation laying ceremony for the Sino-US Low Carbon Building and Community Innovation Experimental Center, which is the office building for the LBNL-Shenzhen IBR Joint Research Center, in Longgang District, Shenzhen city. Mr. Tang Jie, previous vice mayor of Shenzhen city, Mr. Wang Hushan, deputy secretariat in chief of Shenzhen government, Cai Yu, deputy director of Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission, Mrs. Ye Qing, CEO of Shenzhen IBR and other governmental officials also attended the ceremony.

The Sino-US Low Carbon Building and Community Innovation Experimental Center is a new exploration after the establishment of Shenzhen IBR office building in 2009. The Center is an experiment on net zero energy building, which will explore technology innovation in carbon emissions control, environmental quality improvement and building fabrication, and will become a model for low-carbon lifestyle and green community system.

Previous mayor Mr. Tang Jie said that green building is a very new concept when he came to LBNL 5 years ago to initiate the collaboration between LBNL and Shenzhen IBR. After 5-year of close collaboration, technologies and policies for green buildings in Shenzhen city have developed rapidly. He hoped the collaboration could generate more fruitful products in the next five years.
