China Energy Group participates in the 2014 American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings
Seven China Energy Group staff members participated in the 2014 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings, with five panel presentations and two poster presentations. The ACEEE conference, held every two years in Pacific Grove, CA, is a pre-eminent meeting bringing together a diverse array of professionals focused on discussing both the technological basis and practical policy-related implementation of actions focused on reducing the energy use and climate impacts associated with buildings.
On August 18th, China Energy Group staff members presented three presentations in a panel on urban design and the fuel transition in China. Group leader Lynn Price introduced the group's efforts and tools to help Chinese cities with low carbon urban development in a presentation focused on "Energy-Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Policy Options: Assisting Chinese Cities in Prioritizing and Choosing Strategies to Implement to Become a Sustainable Community." Gang He then presented a case study of the group's eco-city tools to the Chinese city of Jinan in his presentation, "Is Your City Really Sustainable? A Tale of Jinan City Using Quantitative Low-Carbon Eco-City Tools." This was followed by Lixuan Hong's presentation on "Modeling China's Building Floor Area Growth and Its Implications for Building Material and Energy Demand." In addition, group deputy leader Nan Zhou, gave a presentation on the group's recent collaborative efforts to develop an updated and comprehensive building model to 2050, in a panel focused on perspectives on quality building design. Nina Khanna also presented the group's recent study quantifying China's building-related PM2.5 emissions and co-benefits of energy efficiency in a panel that looked at energy efficiency as an air pollution control strategy.
CEG staff members Nina Khanna and Wei Feng also presented two posters at the conference's poster session to a diverse group of conference attendees, including U.S. and iternational building researchers, policymakers and industry representatives on August 19th. Nina Khanna's poster compared U.S. and Chinese green building rating programs while Wei Feng's poster evaluated energy savings from the new Chinese commercial building standard. The full, peer-reviewed papers accompanying each presentation and poster will be available at the ACEEE Summer Study conference website in the near future.
On August 21st, Kevin Mo of Energy Foundation China and Nan Zhou hosted an informal afternoon session of discussions with conference attendees on "Designing, Implementing, and Evaluating the Pioneering US-China Research and Technology Development Partnership for Very Low Energy Buildings." The session introduced a platform for and facilitated discussions and idea exchanges about private-public R&D collaboration on solutions to align complex scientific and governmental agendas, create compelling and meaningful industry involvement, and technical oversight.
