Theodore Giraldin
A native of California, Ted's path took him to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. At Knox, he earned his undergraduate degree in economics. After college, his career took him to the Tampa/St. Petersburg area in Florida. He grew his career in a couple different finance roles of increasing responsibility across different industries including credit card processing, and hospital administration.
In 2013, Ted returned to California and joined the Lab in ETA to apply his skills to scientific research administration. Ted completed his MBA with a focus on globalization, innovation and sustainability at California State University, East Bay. His diverse experiences have afforded him a deep understanding of how organizations effectively deploy policy frameworks to meet several business objectives, especially compliance. Ted focuses on making compliance a strategic advantage for ETA, instead of just an administrative chore.
In his current role, Ted is instrumental in helping the Energy Technologies Area and the Lab comply with the various terms and conditions of SPP sponsors, namely the California Energy Commission. Ted performs deep analysis on the Area's portfolio of projects for the CEC, he oversees the quarterly reporting process, he provides invaluable support to Principal Investigators and other researchers in their approach to the challenges and opportunities posed by CEC-funded work. Ultimately, he helps the area by crafting a compliance framework that delivers positive outcomes using education and consultative advising rather than traditional rule enforcement.
When he's not helping the Area navigate the compliance landscape of its strategic partners, Ted has several hobbies. He enjoys photography, painting, and wine tasting. He and his husband enjoy combing northern California in search of the tastiest tacos. They both share an affinity for the sea and love cruise vacations. Ted has completed several memorable sailings. Alaska, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal stand out as his favorites.
