Bio

Dr. Samuel M. Blau is a Postdoctoral Scholar in Kristin Persson's group at LBNL. His current work focuses on the data-driven investigation of reactivity in complex metal-ion electrolyte systems using high-throughput simulations and chemical reaction networks. Sam was selected as this year's ETA Early Career Development LDRD recipient to develop tools for automatically calculating reaction rates and actively exploring reaction space by leveraging both graph theory and machine learning in order to build generally applicable capabilities that could provide insight into complex reactive systems being studied throughout LBNL. Sam earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from Harvard University in 2017 under the guidance of Prof. Alan Aspuru-Guzik with a DOE Computational Sciences Graduate Fellowship. During his Ph.D., Sam simulated exciton dynamics in photosynthetic proteins and demonstrated that incoherent transport is the dominant mechanism of energy transfer.
