Mike Gerhardt is a postdoctoral researcher in Adam Weber's group, using computational models to study water and thermal management in anion-exchange membrane fuel cells and electrolyzers. He received his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Physics from Harvard University, where he worked in Michael Aziz's research group on electrochemical engineering of quinone-based flow batteries. His research interests include electrochemical energy storage and conversion devices, such as flow batteries, fuel cells, and electrolyzers, and using both models and experiments to understand the performance of the porous electrodes used in these devices. Mike has written several peer-reviewed articles on flow battery chemistry and performance, and he has presented his work at various professional society meetings including the Electrochemical Society and American Chemical Society conferences.
