Melvin Pomerantz has been with the Heat Island project since 1994. His main focus is on pavements, as well as some involvement in studies of roofs. His latest activity is the critical analysis of the costs and benefits of cooler surfaces. Before LBNL, he did research on solid-state physics at the IBM Research Laboratories in Yorktown Heights, NY and Almaden, CA. Dr. Pomerantz was a Fulbright Fellow in France, a Meyerhof Visiting Fellow in Israel, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He has taught physics courses at the University of California since 1998. Before that, he taught at the Polytechnic Institute of New York, Mercy College and the State University of NY at Purchase.
