Andrew Thompson is a PhD Candidate in Energy Economics at the University of Paris-Saclay and a Doctoral Researcher at VEDECOM, a French research institute and think tank. Coming from an electrical engineering background, his research is focused on econometric analyses for electric vehicle participation in energy markets otherwise known as Vehicle to Grid/Building/Home (V2X) services. His current work is in quantifying battery costs due to degradation and service provision which will allow for more realistic economic analyses of V2X.
Currently he is a Research Affiliate at Berkeley Lab in the Energy Technologies Area (ETA) and a Visiting Researcher at UC Berkeley at the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS). At Berkeley Lab he is working with the International Studies and Transportation Groups on modeling and cost analysis of EV resource uncertainty and with the Grid Integration Group on EV battery degradation costs from Frequency Regulation service provision.
