Bio

As a senior Program Manager at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Joshua leads a large research program focused on applied research, demonstration and deployment projects used to accelerate the adoption of building decarbonization - energy efficiency, electrification, demand flexibility -  in the commercial building sector, for existing buildings retrofits as well as new construction. Areas of focus for the projects include: overseeing technical analysis to support building performance standards and policies; technical assistance to building industry stakeholders,  techniques and tools to support data-driven decision-making;  technologies and strategies for deep retrofits; financing approaches. 

 

Joshua Kace has spent his career working at the intersection of sustainability, energy and technology.  He brings 13 years of experience in energy engineering for commercial and industrial buildings, sustainability consulting for commercial real estate, and software development for climate/decarbonization technologies.  He helped to start and grow the Energy Management and Engineering Departments at CodeGreen, a leader in ESG/Energy consulting for commercial real estate.  Over his career, Joshua has performed over 75 ASHRAE Level II or higher energy audits / retro-commissioning studies of primarily commercial and industrial buildings, and overseen teams that have performed 100’s more. He has also been involved with the development of numerous energy technology products/projects over his career, from real-time energy management to wireless sensor/metering systems to portfolio energy management tools / data management systems.  Joshua holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University and a LEED AP O+M accreditation from US Green Building Council. He also obtained Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP) certifications from the Association of Energy Engineers.
