Josh Schellenberg



Josh Schellenberg is an Affiliate in the Energy Markets & Policy Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. With over 15 years of consulting and analytics experience in the electric utility industry, Josh supports the development of rigorous plans and benefit-cost analyses that provide clear insight into investment options and enable sound decision-making based on overall net benefits.

Josh's areas of expertise are:

  • Value of Reliability: Including development of LBNL's national interruption cost model and Interruption Cost Estimate (ICE) Calculator, which have informed over $50 billion of grid modernization investments
  • Resilience Planning: Including plan review and benefit-cost analyses for utility resilience plans and major transmission investments designed to mitigate the risks of climate change, natural disasters, physical security and other threats
  • Demand Response / Distributed Energy Resources: Including studies of 20+ pilots and programs that have involved traditional demand response as well as more advanced models/technologies (electric vehicles, energy storage, dynamic pricing and ISO market integration)

Josh holds an MBA from The Wharton School and an M.A. in International and Development Economics from the University of San Francisco.
