Bio

Galen Barbose is a Staff Scientist in the Energy Markets and Policy Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Barbose conducts research and analysis on issues in the electricity industry related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and electric system planning. Among other activities, Barbose leads Berkeley Lab's annual Tracking the Sun report series and the annual renewable portfolio standards status report, and manages a variety of projects analyzing regulatory and policy issues associated with the growth of distributed solar.

Since joining Berkeley Lab in 2001, Barbose has authored more than 100 publications and has presented his work on hundreds of occasions in a wide range of forums. Prior to Berkeley Lab, Barbose was a project engineer at Nexant and Schiller Associates, providing project management, engineering, and consulting services for utility-funded energy efficiency and other demand-side management programs. Barbose holds bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering and philosophy from U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Santa Cruz, respectively, and a master's degree from the Energy and Resources Group (ERG) at U.C. Berkeley.

Presented to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, in recognition of excellence and leadership in wind energy policy and market analysis, by The Wind Powering America Program at WINDPOWER 2009. At the time of the award, the renewables team included: Ryan Wiser, Mark Bolinger, Galen Barbose, Andrew Mills, Ben Hoen, Naim Darghouth, Carla Peterman, and Anna Rosa.
