Rick Perry has awarded a Secretary of Energy’s Achievement Award to the scientific and operational leadership team for the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR).

The center seeks to develop high-performance, low-cost energy storage technologies for transportation and the electric grid. The award-winning team includes Berkeley Lab researchers Nitash Balsara, Gerbrand Ceder, and Kristin Persson.

The award goes to Department of Energy (DOE) employees or contractors who attain significant achievements on behalf of the Department. JCESR "has changed the formula for developing next-generation batteries," the award citation said. "Experiments with new battery materials at the bench have resulted in the discovery of revolutionary new materials for beyond-lithium-ion prototypes."

One of DOE's Energy Innovation Hubs, JCESR is a public-private partnership aiming to overcome critical scientific and technical barriers and create transformative battery technology for transportation and the electric grid.
