2016 ITRI-Rosenfeld Fellowship Winners Announced

June 9, 2016

Two outstanding postdoctoral fellows were recently announced as the winners of the 2016 ITRI-Rosenfeld Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Energy Technologies Area. The fellowship honors the contributions of Art Rosenfeld, of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s (Berkeley Lab's) Energy Technologies Area (ETA), for his pioneering work toward the advancement of energy efficiency on a global scale.

The selection process includes scrutiny of the applications by a selection committee, presentations by the finalists, and panel interviews. The award enables the applicants to engage in innovative research that leads to new energy-efficiency technologies or policies, as well as the reduction of adverse energy-related environmental impacts. It is made possible through a gift from the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan (ITRI) and with ETA support.

Heather Buckley will research the use of minimally processed bauxite ores to mediate excess fluoride in groundwater and make it safe for drinking. She will join the Gadgil Water Group in the Energy Technologies Area. Heather holds a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from UC Berkeley and comes to LBNL following a postdoctoral fellowship developing safer building materials at the Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry.

Ranjit Deshmukh

Ranjit Deshmukh will be studying the impacts of variable renewable energy, climate change and changing water resources on future electricity systems. At LBNL, he will be based with the International Energy Studies Group and is looking forward to working with colleagues across the Energy Technologies Area and the Earth and Environmental Sciences Area. Ranjit is completing his Ph.D. in the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley.

The application period for the ITRI-Rosenfeld Postdoctoral Fellowship opens every year in August and closes in November.
