The 2018 application period is closed.

ETA accepts postdoctoral applications from candidates of extraordinary scientific research abilities with a record of superior academic performance, demonstrated research and academic accomplishments in areas related to clean energy and the environment. Eligibility Requirements

  • Complete all doctoral degree requirements by the fellowship start date (Summer-Fall 2018)
  • Have fewer than three years of paid postdoctoral experience by the start of the fellowship.
  • Identify a potential research mentor (see "How to Apply" section).
  • The selected candidate must plan on a full-time, on-site commitment to the fellowship research program for the two-year fellowship term.

Selection Criteria and Process

Candidates will be selected based on the eligibility requirements above and the following selection criteria:

  • Quality of proposed science in the water-energy technologies area
  • Potential for high-impact R&D
  • Does the proposal champion scientific solutions for society's most urgent environmental problems?
  • Outstanding personal qualities: leadership, academic excellence, communication skills, publications, etc.

The selection committee will review research proposals, and consider all of the supplied materials noted in the "How to Apply" section, including a statement of support from a potential research mentor in ETA and letters of reference. One of the overriding considerations of the selection committee will be the initiative and promise demonstrated by the candidate.

The decision of the selection committee will be absolute and final. If no suitable candidate is identified, no fellowship will be awarded and the call for applications will restart in the following year's award cycle.
