Bio

Dr. Rashid A. Waraich is an Affiliate Researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab within the International Energy Studies group and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California Berkeley (Institute of Transportation Studies). He is one of the pioneers of an agent-based transportation simulation model called BEAM http://beam.lbl.gov/. Currently he is co-leading its development at the Berkeley Lab and UC Berkeley.

Dr. Waraich has worked as a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Transport Planning and Systems at ETH Zurich. He later went on to work as a post-doctoral researcher at the Energy Economics Group at the Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. In the past, he has been invited for research visits to the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise in Singapore and also at the Urban Transport Systems Laboratory at EPFL Switzerland.

He has served on several workshop program committees, particularly in the area of agent-based modelling. He is often invited to peer review papers submitted to various high impact transportation journals. His research interests include large-scale agent-based transportation micro-simulations, behavior modelling, and transportation policy design. Dr. Waraich studied computer science at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, conducted an exchange year at KTH Stockholm, and wrote his master’s thesis in the area of distributed systems at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds a PhD from ETH Zurich (Civil Engineering Department).
