Bio

Dr. Naïm Darghouth is a Research Scientist in the Energy Markets and Policy Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research focuses on renewable energy policy and economics, specifically examining the relationships between distributed energy markets, retail electricity rate design, and customer economics of renewables, among other topics.

He served as a strategic advisor to USAID and energy stakeholders in Tunisia from 2022 to 2023, providing programmatic planning, project design, analytical tasks, and support on energy-related issues. He currently holds the position of Senior Activity Manager for USAID's Power Tunisia Project , a 5-year initiative aimed at promoting clean energy deployment in Tunisia's private sector.

Naïm also serves as a country team co-manager for the Net Zero World initiative, an international collaborative effort led by the United States, partner countries, and philanthropies to accelerate the transition to clean energy systems and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by providing tailored technical, market, and investment strategies, fostering transformative projects, and promoting peer-to-peer learning and confidence building.

With extensive experience in international institutional support, Naïm has provided economic expertise on distributed solar to governments, electricity utilities, and regulators worldwide. His work spans countries throughout Asia, Africa, and the Americas, including Ghana, Colombia, Vietnam, Mexico, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, and India.

Since joining Berkeley Lab in 2009, Naïm has authored over 75 journal articles, reports, conference papers, and briefings. His research has been featured in journals such as Environmental Research Letters, Nature Energy, Applied Energy, Energy Policy, and Renewable Energy.
